Undervaluation of women's work : revelation of priceless contribution of women through adaptive social practice - p.9 - 18
Women have an important role in nurturing, preserving and even perpetuating the visious cycle of patriarchy. The paper on one hand explores the roots of patriarchy subjecting women to be bound to hearth with activities that are though indispensible but least valued and on the other tries to highlight cultural practices that emerged due to worth of women in carrying these indispensible tasks. Consequent upon the impact of urbanisation and increase in female headed households, the brunt of economic vulnerability increased for women of lower social and economic strata. The paper critically contextualises the gendered division of labour that has led perpetuating subjugation of women into roles that have remained out of the purview of economic enumeration.
