Presence of women in the formal labour market is still substantially lower than their share in the total population. Moreover, gender, as well as regional inequality in employment, in an area of increasing policy concern at the national and regional level. Majority of women workers are trapped into low yielding agricultural activities and experiencing a sluggish rise in its share in teh non-agricultural sectors. Lack of education and skills are the main barriers. Keeping this in mind the paper explores the missing link between gender and work.
