26th December 2004 Tsunami: Causes, Effects, Remedial Measures, Pre and Post Tsunami Disaster Management: A Geoscientific Perspective" Department of science and Technology (DST), Government of India had felt a strong need for initiating serious R&D to understand the cause and effects of the Great Tsunami of December 2004 with an aim to support the recovery and rehabilitation. Accordingly, the Earth System Sciences division of the department launched 7 integrated scientific projects aimed at field survey and data collection. This book is an integration of the research highlights of these projects that were executed through research and academic institutions and national agencies, on four major themes viz.
