This book is a step towards eradicating legal illiteracy amongst women and others affected by the discrimination and crimes against women. Working as Judge in Delhi for the last 22 years, the author realized that women were victims of violence and harassment inside their homes, in their neighbourhoods, in schools and colleges, on the streets and at their place of work. A woman is targeted even in a police station or a Court when she attempts to seek justice. There was, she felt, a deep need to provide some guidance to the women and help them feel supported. This book is an attempt to bring into the open, all issues that are important for women and help them become aware of their legal rights and the process that they need to follow. For that reason, the author chose to pen almost every important law in one book to help women, their families and all those who wish to help women become empowered and confident. This book lists, in detail, all the laws which concern women through their life from adolescence to old age. This book is definitely not anti-men and neither does it say anything against them. A balanced approach by the author has resulted in easy reading. Laws have been explained in a simple language, dispelling several myths about the Courts and the Law. Information is provided about the procedures to be followed, applications to be filed and petitions to be drafted. All these make this book handy and useful for everyone. The book is unique in that it explains almost every Law that an Indian woman could possibly need to call upon, touching every aspect of her life and at the same time, acting as a guide and providing emotional support to women who are facing a crisis in their lives. This book can be kept as a useful guide for one self and to help others.
